I really liked the update but the old design was much more functional when it came to fining synonyms its a bit disappointing you dont get all the synonyms youd used to get. Id like the old way to get the synonyms.
I agree with everybody who mentioned that the design become slicker but at the expense of functionality. The older version was much more practical. I used this app a lot exclusively, deleted other dictionaries long time ago. Now Im looking for something that would be more convenient to look up both definitions and synonyms.
I like the redesign after 5 years. Alfie V...you did not "pay" for this app. It was always free. And if you liked the old version just dont update it. Its that simple. Or restore your iPhone from a backup in which you had the old version of this app. Other than that, this app is one of the few apps that have survived on my phone for over 5 years, and part of the reason is its simplistic design and the fact that you can lookup words without wi-fi.
I want my dictionary back apple!!!!!
Redesign in nice, but I came here to echo everyone elses comments--the thesaurus was an essential function for me. Seeing one synonym isnt the same; I want the whole list! And to explain it as an upgrade.... -_- Please bring it back.
I love it! I can find definitions easy and quick. The best thing is that it doesnt need wi-fi service like other apps do. The new update is perfect and nicely designed! Keep up the good work!
Liked the old version better....
I loved using this app as a quick reference. I could find a word, check synonyms, and it was very easy to use and did everything I wanted. The redesign certainly looks prettier, but it lost a lot of the functionality it used to have. No more thesaurus section. And after checking the definition of a word it can be frustrating going back to a long list of words because it resets to the top instead of staying where you were in the list. If you like this app the way it is, good. But I dont like the new version.
No thesaurus removed half of the functionality of the app for me. Aesthetically its a pretty app, but thats not helping me find the synonyms I need.
Im very glad that this app still lets me look up words without an internet connection. And yes, there are a few of us out there where thats still a critical requirement.
I used to love this app. I loved it they way it used to be. Everything doesnt need to be changed like they did here. They could have added more words to the dictionary. To change the whole thing, even the name is too much.. Now I have to see if I can find a better dictionary because I dont like this one anymore.
Just a couple minutes looking through this app, I already dislike it. It gave me multiple circular definitions as well as one or two incorrect definitions. The definitions themselves are simplified to the point that they lose most of the meaning. Not worth my space.
Im not even sure how I got the update (no, I didnt update all nor did I knowingly update this app). I went to open the app last night and it was gone. Tried what appeared in its place and could barely read the new font and the gray italics. (I like the Bold font - maybe we could have that option) it seems to have fewer synonyms. Wish I had the old version - not willing to reset phone - shouldnt have to do that for one app! I will have to find another replacement app if some improvements arent made to this one. I like having several dictionaries on my devices because all words are not in all dictionaries. Had no complaints about the older version.
There are less definitions of the word and less examples
They screwed it up! I went back to websters.
This version is terrible! What happened to my dictionary app?!?! Definitions are completely vague and only gives you ONE synonym!!! The last app gave a list. Huge downgrade from last app. Deleting now.
Ive had this app for probably 6 or 7 years. It was great, the icon looked professional and nice; the icon actually said Dictionary, and the thesaurus portion was better. They have tried to revamp this to make it more appealing to a younger demographic that wants to look up words in the urban dictionary accompanied by bright, annoying colors. "Dont try to fix something if it isnt broken." - the old app was fine as it was.
This used to be a great app, but since the update there are less definitions and we are only given one synonym when we used to get a whole list. I was doing research on religions and this app didnt have the definition for Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Bible, Torah, or Koran. If they went back to the old format Id be happy to use this app but as of now I think its time to get a new dictionary. Like another reviewer said, dont fix what isnt broken.
Ive had this app for a very long time and used to use it very frequently. It went through an update that includes a new design and name, and since then, its been awful. Every time I open it, a message pops up saying "Purchase: In-App Purchases are not allowed." I do have my settings so that I cant purchase anything in apps, but my issue is that this prompt pops up every time for no reason. And if there is a reason, that would mean the app is asking me to buy something every time I open it (but because Ive disabled that function, Im not seeing the prompt to purchase something). Its so annoying and unnecessary. The app used to be great before all the update and changes. Very frustrating. Im deleting the app and looking for another dictionary. Bye Wordset.
